We don’t have to try very hard to imagine a world without greed as being a positive thing – we believe it!
There isn’t a major religion that outwardly promotes ideals of greed or selfish behaviour. In fact, and perhaps unsurprisingly, it’s quite the opposite. The truth is the major religions promote ideals of sharing and caring for each other and are similar in that they portray the world, through its abundant resources, as capable of taking care of all who live upon it.
So why do we have the outcomes we do?
Of course, it’s a complex issue that can create huge debate but the barriers to building a richer, fairer world can be boiled down to being man-made and driven by ego, pride, and greed.
Further, the outcome shouldn’t be a surprise – we teach our children to be this way from a very young age!
Despite the similarities in Culture and Belief worldwide, in economic terms supply, although it can, does not meet demand worldwide!
Could it be there’s a flaw in the education system……?
Should the study of Economics (Greed and Scarcity definitions) be abandoned, at least in a macro sense?
Should the definition of Economics be changed to perhaps the following:
“the science that studies human behaviour as a relationship between end results and scarce ABUNDANT means”
